Lombard Police Offer Child Safety Seat Inspections Saturday, Sept. 16 The Lombard Police Department will be offering free car seat inspections and education to parents and caregivers on Saturday, September 16 at the Lombard Park District's Touch-A-Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon. Lombard Officers, certified as Car Seat Safety Technicians, will help parents ensure child car seats are installed correctly in their vehicles. The service is offered free of charge.
In Illinois, children must be restrained in an appropriate car or booster seat until age eight and in a rear-facing seat until age 2. NHTSA recommends that children stay restrained in their car seats until they outgrow the height and weight limit set by the seat's manufacturer. This often means keeping children in rear-facing seats beyond age two and boosters far beyond age eight.
