Fire Safety Week and Open House

The Lombard Fire Department is recognizing National Fire Safety Week and encouraging everyone to make an escape plan with this year's theme, "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!"

Fire Department Open House
To help encourage fire safety, the Fire Department hosted a fun community open house last night. Attendees experienced fire safety games and learned about the importance of an escape plan.

Fire Department: Pink T-Shirts
In August, the Lombard Fire Department sold pink t-shirts, with profits benefiting the Bhorade Cancer Care Center in Downers Grove. At last night's open house, the profits were presented to Bhorade Cancer Care Center and a group picture was taken in front of the Pink Heals Firetruck. Firefighters will have the option to wear these pink t-shirts throughout October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Road Construction and Closures

Michael McGuire Drive Closure
Beginning Friday, October 11, Michael McGuire Drive will be closed daily for resurfacing 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., until Sunday, Oct. 13. McGuire will be closed from Main Street to Elizabeth Street, including S. Lincoln Ave.

Finley Rail Road Crossing Closure
The Village has been notified that Union Pacific Railroad will be closing the Finley Road crossing between Glen Oak Rd. and Crescent Blvd. to perform track maintenance. The closure will be in place from October 14 through October 24, depending on weather.

Tips for a Safe Halloween and Trick-Or-Treating

In efforts to help minimize unsafe situations, parents are requested to limit trick-or-treating on Thursday, October 31, from 3 p.m., to no later than 7 p.m., and are encouraged to plan for a safe Halloween with a few safety tips.

Consider makeup instead of a mask to ensure clear eyesight.
Use reflective tape or patches.
Toy weapons should be made of cardboard or Styrofoam.
Trick-or-treating should be done during daylight hours. If after dark, provide children with flashlights.
Instruct children to never enter homes of a stranger or accept rides.
