Programs

The Village hosts several community programs each year, that offer citizens the opportunity experience different public service professions. These programs include:

  • Citizens Police Academy
  • Fire Department Citizens Academy 
  • Public Works Citizens Academy
  • Welcome Home Veterans (as requested)

Public Works crew repairing pavement with a skid steer and hand tools in a parking lotHave you ever wondered how Lombard's water is treated? Or how our streets are maintained? If the answer is yes, then Lombard's Public Works Citizens Academy is for you! 

The Academy is geared towards adults (you must be 18 or older to participate) and will be held over consecutive weeks throughout April and May. Sessions are conducted on Monday evenings, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm,  April 20, 2026  -  May 11, 2026 with a graduation event scheduled on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The program includes interactive hands-on activities, tours of Village facilities and presentations by Public Works staff.

Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 13th, or until the class is filled. 

The group size is limited to 20 participants. Participants must be Lombard residents. Applications will be accepted in the order they are received. Questions can be directed to the Public Works Department at 630-620-5740 or publicworks@villageoflombard.org.
