The Village of Lombard and the Public Works and Environmental Concerns Committee are encouraging residents to take part in the "No Mow 'til Mother's Day" initiative. This program invites residents to refrain from mowing their lawn—or a portion of it—until the first week of May to support the local ecology, pollinator habitats, and area wildlife.
Following the overwhelming response to the pilot program introduced in 2023, the Village has amended the Village Code to allow all residents to participate in 2024.
Recent code changes permit grass, both on private property and the parkway, to exceed the maximum height of 8 inches until the Saturday following Mother's Day. Residents can participate without signing up with the Village, and signage will not be provided by the Village. Those who participated in 2023 may use the sign provided last year, although it is not required for participation. Enforcement of the Village Code provision will begin the second Sunday in May.
