[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Responds to House Fire

2019-08-01 14_26_50-Window

At approximately 5:45 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 26, the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire on the 100 block of N. West Road.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire in the front of the home. Two residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate the home before crews arrived. While fire crews fought the fire, paramedics tended to the two residents.

One resident was treated at the scene and released and the second resident was transported to Edward-Elmhurst Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No firefighters were injured.

Due to the severity of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a box alarm, resulting in the response of additional fire departments from surrounding communities.

Initial crews worked to extinguish the fire, while other companies conducted primary and secondary searches and ventilated the structure. After extinguishing the fire, crews remained on scene for many hours. The home remains uninhabitable as it has experienced extensive damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit.

Lombard was assisted on scene by the Glen Ellyn Company, the Elmhurst and Villa Park Fire Departments, and the Addison, Oak Brook Terrace, and York Center Fire Protection Districts, as well as the Lombard Police Department.

Additionally, ComEd and Nicor also responded, in order to secure electric and gas utilities.
