All are invited to honor our military veterans by attending the 2022 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Sunken Garden in Lombard Common Park, located near the intersection of Grace and Maple Streets, on Friday, November 11, 2022. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Lombard Village President Keith Giagnorio will welcome attendees and open the ceremony. This year’s keynote speaker will be Lombard resident and Vietnam Veteran Tom Zilla. Tom served with the Army’s First Corp Aviation Company as a Flight Operations Specialist and a Gunner on Huey helicopters. He is also the former commander of the VFW Lilac Post 5815 and has been a Lombard resident for more than 40 years.
Glenbard East High School student Linaea Walsh will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.” Glenbard East buglers Allison Schmuldt and Brayden Smith will play the call to Assembly and Retreat.
In an effort to remember the extraordinary courage and commitment to freedom made by our veterans, Village President Giagnorio invites all residents, families and neighbors to attend. Residents interested in sitting during the brief ceremony are asked to bring lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to Lombard Village Hall, 255 E Wilson Ave.
The event is supported by Lilac VFW Post 5815, and American Legion Lombard Post 391 and is hosted by the Village of Lombard. For more information, contact Lombard’s Communications Office at communications@villageoflombard.org or (630) 620-5718.
