The Village of Lombard and the Public Works and Environmental Concerns Committee encourage residents to participate in a new “No Mow ‘til Mother’s Day” initiative. The program invites residents to postpone mowing their lawn, or a portion of their lawn, through Mother’s Day to help support the local ecology, specifically the habitats of pollinators and other wildlife.

Lombard residents in single-family homes who wish to participate in the program can sign up on the Village’s website at www.villageoflombard.org/nomow until April 1, 2023. Once registered, residents will receive a lawn sign and be exempt from lawn mowing code enforcement through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Regular lawn care code enforcement will resume one week after Mother’s Day and lawn signs will be collected by Village staff.

“Pollinators, including bees, butterflies and moths, play a critical role in maintaining the health of our ecosystems and food supply,” said Carl Goldsmith, Director of Public Works. “By participating in this program and delaying mowing, homeowners can provide a temporary refuge for pollinators and help support their populations.”

This initiative is being led by the Village of Lombard in coordination with the Lombard Garden Club. Information on the Garden Club’s conservation efforts and environmental issues can be found on the Lombard Garden Club’s website at lombardgardenclub.org/conservation.html
