The Lombard Police Department recently conducted a distracted driving enforcement campaign aimed at reducing the number of accidents caused by drivers using mobile devices. During the campaign, the department issued 135 violations for violating the hands-free cellphone law.
In addition to cellphone violations, the Lombard Police Department issued citations for various other traffic offenses, including the following:
- 57 Speeding Citations
- 28 Seatbelt Citations
- 6 Child Seat Safety Citations
- 40 Other Citations (Moving/Non-Moving)
- 10 Arrests
"We are pleased with the results of this campaign and hope that it serves as a reminder to drivers to stay focused on the road," said Traffic Safety Unit Patrol Officer Dan Herrera. "Distracted driving is a serious problem that puts lives at risk, and we will continue to enforce the law to keep our roads safe."
The Lombard Police Department joined forces with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort.
The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
