In honor of National Preparedness Month, residents are reminded that it is important to prepare children and teenagers for possible emergencies and disasters. Involving young people in preparedness efforts can help youth, families, and communities be prepared and able to respond when faced with disasters.
Throughout September, the Village of Lombard will share useful tips and information on how to prepare for emergencies. Taking a few minutes to create an emergency plan now, can help you and your family when minutes matter.
Families are encouraged to create or update a contact list including work, personal and medical phone numbers that children may use in emergencies. These plans should also include a neighborhood meeting place and a regional meeting place in case family members get lost or separated.
Emergency kits should be prepared ahead of time and should include important items including batteries, bottled water, prescription medicines, phone charger and a back-up battery and any necessary medical equipment. For additional preparation plans and suggested emergency kit items, please visit www.ready.gov/september to learn how to help keep you and your family informed and safe in times of emergencies, disasters or crises. For information on how to prepare children and teens on what to do when a crisis occurs, visit www.ready.gov/kids.
In times of emergency, the Village of Lombard will notify residents of informative updates.
