Police Release Holiday Enforcement Results

Community Updates Posted on January 10, 2025 | Last Updated on January 10, 2025

This holiday season, the Lombard Police Department partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and law enforcement agencies across the state for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which focused on reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety from December 13 through January 2.

During the enforcement period, Lombard Police issued the following:

  • 15 seatbelt citations,
  • 11 speeding citations,
  • 5 distracted driving citations (cell phone use),
  • 13 other citations (moving/non-moving violations),
  • 2 traffic arrests (no valid, suspended, or revoked licenses), and
  • 3 criminal arrests.

Officers placed extra emphasis on late-night patrols, as data shows the highest number of fatal crashes occur during these hours due to impaired or unbuckled drivers.

“Our goal is to protect the community and ensure that everyone can enjoy the holiday season safely,” said Lombard Police Sergeant Tom Balsitis. “Preventing impaired driving is a shared responsibility, and we thank everyone who made smart choices.”

The holiday enforcement campaign is administered by IDOT with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
